Although Weltplast produced its first biodegradable bag way back in late 2008 (the first in South East Europe), according to reaction of the media and markets, it is likely that real trend of using biodegradable bags is starting nowadays.
Yesterday, 4/21/2011, Konzum, the leading Croatian hypermarket chain has announced its 100% biodegradable bags produced by Weltplast, that are already available for their customers.

It is not clear if this trend being driven by the Interspar who pushed the production of biodegradable bags through the last two years and encourages its consumers to use them, or maybe Konzum who strongly believes in the future of biodegradable bags.
We also believe that big reasons for this strong demand for biodegradable bags is the upcoming Earth Day event celebrated by the Green City project and increasing sensitivity towards environmental protection.
